1866年，堪萨斯大学在一座未完工的建筑，这座建筑坐落在一个叫奥利德山(Mount Oread)的无树山脊上迎来了第一批55名学生。

今天，我们的注册人数达到28500人。从那一栋建筑，我们已经发展到五个校区——劳伦斯校区、欧弗兰公园的爱德华兹校区，以及堪萨斯城、威奇托和赛利纳的医疗分支机构。这片曾经贫瘠的土地已经变成了一个树木繁茂的校园，被认为是美国最美丽的校园之一。
